Milan's Market Sfogliatella Riccia ("curly") is a true Italian classic, a traditional pastry from the Italian region of Campania with a rich history dating all the way back to the 17th century.
Sfogliatella was created at the monastery of Santa Rosa in Conca dei Marini in the province of Salerno, Italy. This shell-shaped pastry is made with layers of crispy, flaky, paper thin dough. The (Sfo-ya-tellya) texture resembles stacked leaves, its name somewhat translates to "small, thin leaf/layer" imagine bitting into a stack of buttery sheets of Phillo dough.
They are filled with a sweet and creamy ricotta cheese which is infused with a hint of citrus from fresh and candied citrus peel, and cinnamon. Ricotta in a pastry? YES trust me it is is nothing like you have ever had. We are the ONLY place you can get fresh made to order Sfogliatella in the San Joaquin Valley.
